Software Identification Tab
ISO 19770-2 provides a standardized framework for software identification tags with benefits in Asset Management, Compliance and Auditing, Automation or Security of software products.
ISO 19770-2 software identification standard bases on two sets of parameters to make a software application identifiable. Parameters from the first set are mandatory and are presented below.
Mandatory Tags
Identifier
This field uniquelly identifies a software product and a version. Organization that creates the tags (Tag Creator) is responsible to ensure this unicity between all tagged products and all versions. Content of this field can be a GUID or can have any other structure, for example productname_version. This field cannot contain characters that cannot appear in a filename.
Three entities involved in software application creation and distribution must be specified: the entity that created the software, the entity that licensed the software and the entity that created the file with information required by ISO 19770-2 standard.
Software Creator Name
This field contains the name of the entity that created the software. The value of this field should be maintained for different versions of the same software.
Software Creator ID
The unique registration identifier of the entity that created the software. If this value is not known or the entity is out of bussines, unknown keyword can be placed in this field.
Software Licensor Name
The name of the entity that owns the copyright of the software package.
Software Licensor ID
The unique registration identifier of the software licensor entity. If this entity is no longer in business or the identifier is not available then unknown value can be used.
Tag Creator Name
The name of the entity that created these ISO 19770-2 tags. In our case, should be the name of the entity that created the Advanced Installer project.
Tag Creator ID
The unique registration identifier of the entity that created the tags.
Entitlement Required
Indicates if a rights to use the software verification should be performed in order to asses the software compliance.
Optional Tags
Beside the above mandatory tags, there is a set of optional tags that can be used by to enhance the software identification process. Advanced Installer provides support for some of the most popular optional tags.
Serial Number
Many organizations want to use a serial number to identify a purchase of a particular software product. If Advanced Installer project was configured to use serial numbers during setup phase, then you can opt to automatically place the provided serial number into ISO 19770-2 tags file.
License and Channel Information
Provides information about how a software was obtained and installed and clues about rights to use the software. There are three components:
- Channel Type - the distribution channel for that the software package was designated. The default possible values are Volume, Retail, OEM and Academic but other values can be added as well. If you want use other value, type it in the combobox edit area. This field allows to a Software Asset Management practitioner to quickly identify some non compliant software. For example, products distributed on Academic channel are usually not appropiate for corporate use.
- Channel Name - the name of a distribution or channel partner.
- Customer Type - the target customer type for the software package. The default possible values are Government, Corporate, Educational, Retail but other values can be used as well. If you want to use another value, just type it in the combobox edit area.
